It makes the headlines more regularly than the most mediatized of experts and foster coffee discussions as surely as weather changes. Burnout - and its many derived names, all more colourful than the other - is on everyone's lips. But what is this phenomenon? Is it a real "epidemic", which, according to the media, would ravage private companies as much as the public sector, even interfering in schools? Is this just a more politically correct way to talk about depression? What are the possible treatments? How can it be prevented? Observing the changes in the world of work as well as in the world at large and questioning this syndrome in many ways, giving a voice to those who have experienced it and to those who accompany them, the authors take stock of this unease which could be a sign of a much more global evolution of our society. Neither scientific research nor yet another collection of good advice to get out of it and stay Zen, this book examines the theme of burnout from a medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and societal perspective, while integrating essential practical aspects into the action. It thus offers readers, whether caring, cared for, or simply curious, an essential global vision of this problem, taking the opposite view to the one that is too often adopted today, which is individualising and psychologising. It is in the joint and concerted reflection and action of each of us, concerned in various ways, that the hope of talking about burnout in the past lies.

Organizational development

In collaboration with the Swiss Competence Centre for Human Rights (CSDH), the Centre for the Study of Labour Relations organised a major international and multidisciplinary conference in Neuchâtel from 7 to 9 February 2018 entitled Revolution 4.0 and fundamental rights at work, A new challenge for social and labour law? The idea of this conference was to examine the effects that revolution 4.0, as it is called, or the fourth industrial revolution, that of digitization, has and will have on the daily functioning of our societies, but also on the rules that govern it, particularly from the point of view of labour law and social security. The law as we know it today was forged in a very different economic and social context and is dependent on conceptions (Fordist model, welfare state, etc.) that respond to logics that are distinct from those that govern industry 4.0. We must now ask ourselves whether traditional legal concepts and categories are still relevant to frame and support this new model of wealth creation. This book, which brings together the proceedings of the symposium mentioned above, attempts to provide answers to these questions.

Recruitment and selection

This book is a useful guide for recruiters to support them in the construction and implementation of a behavioural job interview. It is an approach aimed at identifying critical work situations and deriving appropriate behaviours and generic skills from them. This information will then be used as a basis for the formulation of so-called behavioural questions, i.e. questions in which the candidate will be asked to describe in detail a similar critical situation he has encountered and the behaviour he has adopted in this situation. The book also describes how to construct scales to objectively assess the quality of the candidate's responses and make the best hiring decision. Any recruiter, whether a human resources professional, a recruitment consultant or a team leader, will be able to follow this guide step by step, in order to set up in his company a selection method validated by years of scientific research and already practiced by many large international companies. The job interview is one of the most common tools used by companies to select their future employees. However, the approaches chosen are not always optimal, as they are often based on intuition and not on objective criteria.
